Virtual Space Hero Interview of Matthew Richter on Common Learning Misconceptions and Their Implications
Barbara Covarrubias Venegas, of VIRTUAL SPACE HERO, interviewed LDA organizer, Matthew Richter about common misconception in L&D and the implications of their applications. The interview was on February 12, 2021. Thanks, Barbara.
Below the video are several notes with references.
NOTES FROM THE VIDEO:
Matthew did misspeak once (or, perhaps many times… But the big one was at minute 40... He misspoke about Kolb. He had something else in mind. 🤷♂️ He also said there was a chapter specific to Kolb in Paul Kirschner’s Urban Myth’s book. There isn’t. Again, Matthew was thinking of something else and there is no specific chapter in the book. But it is referenced in the learning styles chapter. Sorry. But Matthew’s point about nuance and complexity still stands. 😁

Matthew refers frequently to the work of Paul Kirschner and Pedro de Bruyckere. Their books: Urban Myths About Learning and Education and More Urban Myths About Learning and Education are incredible repositories summarizing the issues and research on many of these topics. You can find them easily wherever you buy books.
Matthew also refers to Clark Quinn’s wonderful book as a key reference for my way of thinking, too. It is: Millennials, Goldfish & Other Training Misconceptions: Debunking Learning Myths and Superstitions.
He referred to Mirjam Neelen's and Paul Kirschner's book: Evidence-Informed Learning Design: Creating Training to Improve Performance
He also referenced the GIANTS IN L&D Series created by Guy Wallance and Mirjam Neelen. Mirjam interviewed Paul. https://ldaccelerator.com/giants
