OVERVIEW

The Rationale

This is a time of growth and excitement for learning and development (L&D). Organizations need to cope with the increasing rate of change and the more virtual world that’s emerged. Thus, there’s greater demand for upskilling and continual improvement.

We also are seeing ever-faster emergence of technologies with promises to deliver new capabilities to meet learning and performance needs. Finally, there’s a growing body of converging evidence that suggests which practices actually work and lead to the best outcomes.

On the other hand there’s evidence that we are not ready: content-dump and knowledge test, smile sheets, and more. In short, we are often still applying 20th century technologies and approaches to 21st-century problems.

It’s time for that to change. We need to practice what we preach; we need to upskill ourselves!

The 2022 Conference Structure

DIFFERENCES FROM PREVIOUS YEARS

  1. Two focused tracks that cross-over: (a) The New L&D Professional; and (b) the Experienced L&D Professional

  2. The asynchronous programs will act as foundations for the live, synchronous sessions.

  3. Smaller, more accessible faculty.

  4. Projects for participants to apply lessons learned in the workflow.

  5. A plethora of resources and tools.

The Learning & Development Conference 2022 is designed to do just that. This conference is different and needed. It is a curated curriculum specifically designed to address the most important needs for learning and development.

Our faculty are established translators of research-to-practice presenting the necessary evidence-based ideas that are critical to delivering the L&D that our organizations want and need.

Spread out over several weeks, this isn’t your typical ‘event’ model.

We want to develop capabilities, with time to revisit core ideas, and work on the practical implications.

The audience is also global, with events scheduled to support attendance wherever and whenever you are. Of course, all live sessions are virtual and recorded for later review.

The pedagogy is also interactive, engaging audiences from discussions to tasks.

All this should be enough to convince you that this event is definitely a ‘must attend’, but there’s more.

On an ongoing basis, we will solicit topics from attendees that need to be addressed, and make sure they are. We believe in being flexible and responsive, and are organized to support that.

The conference is designed to make sure that you leave ready to face the challenges of the 21st-century L&D. Now it’s up to you to take up that mission.


 
 

YOU DO YOU, LEARN WHEN YOU WANT

The beauty of an online conference is that you attend what you want and skip what you don’t. Skip the chaos and stop trying to squeeze a conference (and all the learning) into two short days. Panic over!

The great news is if you do want to learn something else later, there is always a video capture of everything we do, for your future enjoyment.

ON-DEMAND CONFERENCE SESSIONS

For everyone of our topics, there are asynchronous, on-demand sessions for you. Because they are asynchronous, meaning you can go through them whenever you want and at your leisure; you set the pace and fit learning around your time.

Unlike in-person conferences, where you can only attend a few sessions, the L&D Conference ensures you can take as many conference programs as your time allows.

LIVE SESSIONS TO GET YOU INVOLVED

Partnered with their on-demand sessions, we have live programs that enable you to go even deeper into the various conference topics, ask questions, talk with your peers, and explore applications. We also have other sessions available, as well…panel discussions with the faculty on putting stuff together, interviews, networking events, and more.

And, they’re scheduled at different times of the day (we are an international conference after all). All sessions will be video captured and shared within 72 hours. Finally… no counter-programming. No live sessions are scheduled at the same time! So, you never have to choose between great options. Nice, isn’t it?

 
 

PROJECTS. APPLICATIONS. OH MY!

Real transfer of learning won’t happen until you reflect and try what you learn back in your own personal work flows. Take the opportunity to identify a specific project based on the conference and execute it. Get mentored by one of the faculty, engage with peers for additional feedback, and share those lessons learned with each other.

What freebies Can you take home?

Well… since you are most likely already at home, this is easy (no cheap pens or book bags). But, from a program perspective, you will have access throughout the conference to all sessions and their respective videos until the very end… and beyond!

Faculty will provide handouts and other learning materials too. Those are yours forever. We’ll have a conference bookstore, and sponsors provide their goods and services at astonishing discounts.

We love creating and we’re keen to keep adding to the list of activities we have planned for you. Like all conferences, we hope to overwhelm you with so many cool things to do, you don’t know where to start. But… after two years of doing just that… we have decided to try NOT OVERWHELMING you. In other words, we really want you to really learn as much as possible.

So, we have shrunk the options and have kept it more manageable in a world where you are likely fully immersed at work and living a personal life, as well. So, over the six weeks, you will have the chance to experience it all - network with experts and your peers - and have the most fantastic learning experience ever— but not have so many choices as to get overwhelmed.
